First Dance Kiss, Peabody Library, MarylandAfter their beautiful wedding ceremony in Towson, Maryland, the bride and groom enjoyed their first dance in the magnificent reception hall of the Peabody Library. This romantic wedding portrait captures how the groom was unable to suppress his joy -- so eager was he to embrace and kiss his bride. His action caused her to smile radiantly. His dark hair and tuxedo along with her lacy wedding dress, styled hair, and bright lipstick were all beautifully combined to create their classy appearance. The fading evening light gleamed through the large skylight of the library, providing a romantic ambiance for their first dance. All of the guests were entranced by the happy couple as the newlyweds glided across the dance floor. Hannah and Matt were caught up in their loving moment and seemed to notice little else. To capture this special moment, I manipulated the lighting to create romance and drama for this portrait. The darkness of the photo’s outskirts reduces distractions yet allows the viewer to catch a glimpse of the on-looking guests. The skylight and the lighted columns romantically lit the background of this beautiful portrait. One’s eyes are drawn center stage to the dancing newlyweds by the flare of light behind them. This backlit flash was achieved by having my assistant remain unseen while holding a flash behind the bride and groom. While the darkness adds to the romance of this wedding portrait, the light enhances its drama. I always seek to take close-up portraits to capture the couple’s natural expressions and emotions as they have fun together. The romantically lit library along with its regal architecture was a beautiful setting for this candid portrait of their first dance. The George Peabody Library is a favorite Baltimore venue for wedding ceremonies and receptions. This breathtaking library boasts 300,000 volumes that are framed by six tiers of columned walls, classically styled railings, and marble flooring. Not only is it beautiful, it is also functional as it is able to comfortably host wedding receptions made up of nearly 200 guests. The Peabody Library is a classy venue that provides many elegant backdrops for wedding portraits and I would love to have another opportunity to photograph there.
